Sunday I went to Church. Beatrix and I
attended worship in a Red Deer congregation where I worked for a few months
three years ago. It was a very happy experience for me, a time when I felt
useful and effective. Seeing those folk again was a really positive experience
for me. In some way, it renewed my sense of self worth that has suffered
through the past year, and particularly
since I have been slowed down by the stroke.
Later in the day, we picked up our grand
daughter at the Edmonton airport. She is living with us for the summer and
working at Tim’s to earn money for school. Emma is a breath of fresh air;
intelligent, articulate, opinionated, and thoughtful. Another boost to the spirit.
This is a very bright girl, Honor Society member, top marks in four subjects, absolutely
self assured (at least from the outside.) having her around for the summer is a
treat and an honour.
All of this is a real plus in terms of recovery
for me. She reminds me that she is adult in most ways, and does not require my
help or protection. It’s a privilege to be accepted as a friend, albeit
ancient. An altogether good day!
